Celebrating Our One Year Anniversary
Today, the 14th January 2022, marks our 1 year anniversary at our Walter Scott Avenue home! From the moment we opened our doors, we have been met by tremendous support and are forever grateful for having received such a lovely welcome into the community. Now, as we move into our next steps of the business by developing a fully functional Vegan and Gluten-Free Indian kitchen, we wanted to look back at our journey and how we got to where we are today.
Our Founder, Pankaj Rawat, moved to Scotland in 2009 and began working as a Business Development Manager for Tesco Bank. He was very happy in this role and enjoyed conjuring business ideas and thoughts to help the business succeed in a short period of time.
However, the corporate world was not where Pankaj’s heart lay. Out of work, he had a strong passion for Indian cooking which he still wished to explore and experiment, but for that he needed to dedicate his time and ultimately, start his own venture.
This is when his soul project, Bell Bottom, was born.
Little did Pankaj know he was about to face his first major hurdle, before he had even found a premises, as the COVID pandemic struck the city. Luckily, this worked in his favour as the Walter Scott Avenue unit was a small café selling up due to the lockdown – the perfect spot to open a new business. Pankaj looked at his savings, did his maths and with this, wrote up a small business plan to first show to his close friends. They had faith in him, so along with members of his family, they mucked together to get the business on its feet!
The next step was to jump into the world of social media to start promoting the business – especially as everyone was spending an increased amount of time on their phones! This is when we approached MB Media, one of Scotland’s hottest creative marketing agencies. They created our vibrant brand and assisted with all aspects of design before implementing a strategy to manage all of our social channels.
Pankaj set out to share a real taste of authentic, healthy, Indian food from the streets of Delhi to the Capital City of Edinburgh, and he achieved just that. With an incredible, dedicated team, Bell Bottom now celebrates its first year and looks forward to continuing to deliver delicious cuisine to all the foodies out there!
