Catering for the Vegan Community

“Veganism is a philosophy and way of living which seeks to exclude—as far as is possible and practicable—all forms of exploitation of, and cruelty to, animals for food, clothing or any other purpose; and by extension, promotes the development and use of animal-free alternatives for the benefit of animals, humans and the environment. In dietary terms it denotes the practice of dispensing with all products derived wholly or partly from animals.” – Donald Watson, Founder of The Vegan Society

Earlier this year, India saw great growth in plant-based eating and figures remain on the rise. Although Vegetarianism is already a way of life for 71% of Indians, dairy plays a key role in the traditional Indian diet which makes Veganism that little more difficult. However, luckily an increasing number of dairy-free alternatives are becoming readily available – and affordable!

Here at Bell Bottom, we have noticed this trend spread across Europe and have expanded our menu to suit the needs of the growing Vegan community here in Edinburgh, and reduce our environmental impact.

Last week we invited down Vegan food blogger Sophia (@vegansophhh) to try out our new Vegan dishes and provide some insight on the local plant-based community. Find below the wonderful feedback she provided:

“Me and my friend Eve were so lucky as to be invited along to try their vegan menu, safe to say we were both very impressed!!

I don’t usually venture out the city centre for food but Bell Bottom was 100% worth the trip and will definitely be returning! I got a cauliflower potato curry and onion bhaji and both were superb!

What I loved as well is their attention to detail, all the food was wonderfully presented and the takeaways come in sari bags to keep them warmer for longer and reduce plastic waste

I would also like to say all the staff were superb in their service and so friendly and Pankaj is so passionate about what he does and really took the time with us to talk about the business.”

To hear these kind words is a great achievement for us at Bell Bottom as we want our unique fusion of Indian and Scottish cuisine to be enjoyed by all, and we will always seek ways to cater for all the dietary requirements in our community.
